From Scrappy to Sustainable: A Commitment to Institutional Strength
Corey Pemberton, Executive Director
In 2025, Crafting the Future reached a pivotal turning point in our organizational journey. We moved from the scrappy energy of our founding years toward a deliberate period of deepening our roots. As we’ve transitioned from how we started to how we are sustaining, our focus shifted toward institutional growth and stability. This year was not about rapid expansion for its own sake, but about ensuring our internal daily operations were as strong and intentional as the programs we deliver.

The most significant step in this evolution was the expansion of our internal team. By bringing on our first full-time Director of Development and a Communications Coordinator, we are institutionalizing the work of Crafting the Future. These are not just new hires; they represent a strategic commitment to foundational strength, ensuring that this organization endures as a pillar of the creative landscape for the next generation.
Throughout this past year, we have redoubled our efforts on proven strategies and refined our focus on the programs that demonstrate the most mission alignment and tangible impact. We spent 2025 putting the necessary systems in place to support long-term success. As we look toward 2026, we are poised for a strategic activation year. We are ready to mobilize these new systems to scale our impact, grow our programs, and continue building a future free from systemic barriers for artists of color.
