The Long Game: Anchoring Our Identity for the Future
Ché Rhodes, Board Chair
Effective governance requires a clear-eyed look at our purpose, especially as we transition from a budding collective to a mature institution. In 2025, the Board and staff undertook a collaborative, six-month journey to refine our Mission, Vision, and Values to be unapologetically true to our identity. We realized that our priority must be staying visible and legible to the artists who need us, rather than stretching our language to be palatable to those who may be hostile to our mission. This clarity of purpose is our compass, ensuring that every program we forge and every dollar we invest moves us toward a creative landscape where access for artists of color is the norm, not the exception.

It has been deeply rewarding to watch Crafting the Future grow and mature over this past year. We have moved into a season of foundational strength. By centering the artists we serve and dismantling the systemic barriers they face, we are playing the long game. Your support has been vital in this process, allowing us to remain agile and focused on our core purpose during a year of profound reassessment.
As we look toward 2026, our goal is to lay a strong, permanent foundation. We are no longer just building a moment; we are fueling a movement and securing a resource that will serve artists of color for generations to come.
We invite you to continue building this equity alongside us.
