The Penland Crew holds CTF fundraising campaign!!
During Black History Month, SaraBeth Post hosted weekly interviews with Black artists on IG Live. the left, Treasure Mallory of Niki & Mallory and Antonio Andrews of No Parking Studios
Summer
In summer of 2021, CTF provided 23 scholarships that covered expenses including tuition, room and board, travel, studio fees, and materials for BIPOC artists from New Urban Arts, Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts, YAYA, STEAM Exchange, Hilltop Artists, Firebird Community Arts. Students attended summer programming at Penland School of Craft (Penland, NC), Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Gatlinburg, TN), Touchstone Center for Crafts.(Farmington, PA), Pittsburgh Glass Center (Pittsburgh, PA) , Peters Valley School of Craft (Layton, NJ), John C. Campbell Folk School, (Brasstown, NC), Pilchuck Glass School (Seattle, WA) , and Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI). In addition to to these scholarships we partnered with Anderson Ranch to send ceramic artist Wayne Perry to attend a workshop and supported Pilchuck School of Glass in holding a one-week artist residency program for Hilltop Artists.
Crafting the Future received a $200,000 grant from The John and Robyn Horn Foundation ensuring the continuation of programming for the next two years!!
Crafting the Future collaborates with Pilchuck Glass School and Hilltop Artists. Cedric Mitchell and Corey Pemberton serve as Artistic Advisors for a week long residency program at Pilchuck Glass School for the Hilltop Artists of Tacoma WA.
The Pittsburgh Glass Center and Crafting the Future collaborate to create a mentor based glass artist residency. Two established glass artists, Jason McDonald and Cedric Mitchell were paired with emerging artists Deaunta Holman and Mishawn Cabrera. Each pair spent (one week? 2 weeks? at Pittsburgh Glass Center creating work. This residency created the opportunity for Mishawn to become the Pittsburgh Glass Center Tech Apprentice.
CTF creates a residency program in Los Angeles, CA for LA locals. Photographer Lenard Smith and fashion designer Rene Camarillo are the first CTF Resident Artists.
Clay to Table is a prime example of a CTF Crew and holds a sweepstakes benefitting CTF! Clay to Table is a forward thinking organization promoting the potter’s art and sharing excitement to an ever growing online pottery marketplace.
Fall
Che Spriggs joins the CTF team as the Operations Coordinator! Che is a nonprofit professional with more than 5 years of experience bringing structure and efficiency to organizations working in the fields of art, education, child welfare, and mental health for underserved communities.
Not only does Crafting the Future help our partners expand their community, we also support them at home. STEAM Exchange received a Special Project Grant to help offset the costs of employing Shaun Jones as the senior intern.
Norman Teague Design Studios receives a special project grant to help fund his long established apprenticeship program.
